Traveling Abrasive Blaster

Tradesmen International is immediately hiring experienced Traveling Abrasive Blasters for projects located in the Newport News, VA area. This is a first shift opportunity, and the pay rate is $27.31/hour based on experience plus $140/day per diem for Travelers 60+ miles from the job site. Job Scope:          

• Operate abrasive blasting equipment such as pressure pots, hoses, nozzles, and compressors to remove rust, corrosion, old coatings, etc
• Work inside ship tanks, compartments, hulls, dry docks and confined spaces
• Prepare surfaces to the required cleanliness and surface profile specified by the job or coating system

• Minimum 3 years in using high pressure blast equipment
• Experience must include working in a physically demanding environment, confined spaces, working at heights, and in the use of a blaster air-fed helmet and/or soft hood air-fed respirator and a negative-pressure half-face respirator
• Blasters must be of height and weight that will allow entrance and movement through man way and tank openings
• Must be a U.S. citizen
• Must successfully pass a criminal background check
• Must successfully pass a hair follicle drug test
• Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position in a shipbuilding environment
